The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) has received a donation of computers worth nearly $20,000 from a leading sports lottery firm.
The donation of 45 computer units from the National Sports Lottery (NSL) Co., Ltd. is intended to help the NOCC and partners prepare for the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
The donation was handed over to top NOCC officials led by Secretary-General Vath Chamroeun. Representatives from NSL were also present for the handover ceremony, which was held yesterday at the NOCC headquarters in Phnom Penh.
Chamroeun said the donation is a big help for NOCC and the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), the agencies in-charge of preparation for the 2023 SEA Games.
“Computers are in short supply. We need more of them, especially equipment for administrative tasks,” said Chamroeun, who is also the Secretary-General of CAMSOC.
According to the NOCC official, the new equipment will be distributed among the various sports federations, especially the ones whose disciplines are included in the Final List for the 2023 SEA Games.
The computers will be used for documentations, writing reports, storage of files, among other administrative tasks.
“We want to thank the National Sports Lottery for their donation and other support to the Cambodian sports sector,” Chamroeun stressed.
Private companies and international sports organisations have been generous with their support for Cambodia’s preparations for the 2023 SEA Games, which marks the first time for the Kingdom to host Southeast Asia’s biggest sports event.
Last year, the Cambodia Table Tennis Federation received more than $5,000 worth of new equipment, including ping-pong tables, rackets and balls, sponsored by the Asian Table Tennis Federation.
Before that, Thai business tycoon Supachai Verapuchong donated $100,000 worth of Difelene gels to NOCC, to help the national athletes who are training for the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games.
Preparations for the 2023 SEA Games are ongoing amid the Covid-19 pandemic. CAMSOC, NOCC and partners have been holding weekly meetings, which also tackled the Kingdom’s preparation for the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam.
Cambodia is planning to send a 500-person delegation to the next SEA Games, local media reported.
