Cambodia national fencer, Chhay Linly, is training hard to prepare the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games in 2023, when Cambodia hosts this event for the first time in history.
With her international experience, Linly is hopeful to win medals for the Kingdom at the biggest multi-sport event in Southeast Asian region.
“Our coaches have urged us to train and improve our technical aspects as well as energy. Our training schedule is from Monday to Saturday,” said Linly.
“We are training hard and focusing more on technical aspects and energy.”
Between July and August, Cambodia national fencers took part in the ASEAN University Games 2022 in Thailand.
Cambodia won four medals including one gold, one silver and two bronzes, while Linly won one bronze and one gold.
Winning medals at the ASEAN University Games 2022 gave her a great motivation to aim for medals at the SEA Games next year.
“My goal is to win medals at the SEA Games in Cambodia. We need to work hard as we are aware of the quality of our opponents from other countries,” she added.
“We will need to give our all to win medals for our country.”
Born in Phnom Penh in 2022, Linly started training in fencing in 2015. After two years of her hard work, she was called up to join the Cambodia national team.
She took part in Asian Games once and twice in SEA Games in 2019 in the Philippines and 2022 in Vietnam.
