Cambodia 2023 Joins United Nations Sports For Climate Action

Environmental issues have become a major concern for many global citizens including Cambodians.

The environmental impact in organising sports events and multi games can contribute to massive deterioration of the environment and many sports organisers are putting in an action plan to counter the impact of the environment.

To this effect, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) is now an official signatory of the United Nations Sports for Climate Action.

CAMSOC chairman and the deputy president of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced the decision to be a signatory of the United Nations Sports for Climate action during the ongoing SEA Games Federation Council Meeting in Siem Reap.

Both the 32^nd SEA Games and the 12^th ASEAN Para Games will now be part of the Green initiative to be adopted by the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC).

Through the initiatives at the Games, CAMSOC hopes to inspire fans, communities and others to address the most urgent issue of our time – climate change.

As a Sport for Climate Action signatory, the Games will also be part of the Race to Zero global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions and investors for a healthy, resilient, zero-carbon recovery that prevents future threats, create decent jobs that unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.

The commitment by the hosts to be part of the UN Sports for Climate Action is in line with the motto of Cambodia 2023 of Sport:Live In Peace.

The environment is the conduit in ensuring that Cambodians and the South East Asia community continues to live in peace. By organising Cambodia 2023 in a sustainable way guided by the UN Sports for Climate Action for Change will ensure that every one of us play our part to ensure our environment is enjoyed by future generations.
